Conference

Learn essential information to safely combat vital issues affecting families of our community. The Prevention Conference, a component of the Verizon Children’s Health Festival, focuses on four current prevention issues impacting youth and parents. 

10:15am – 11:00am : Underage Drinking

Diane Eckert, prevention specialist with the Safe and Drug Free Youth Office of the Fairfax County Public Schools, will discuss:

  • Impact of early use of alcohol

  • Alcohol use by youth in Fairfax County – numbers paint the picture

  • How youth obtain alcohol and where they drink

  • Influence of parents

  • Coalitions initiative to reduce underage drinking

11:15am – 12:00pm : Bullying in Schools

Stefan Mascoll, ATOD Specialist, Safe and Drug Free Youth Office, will discuss:

  • The definition of bullying and cyber bullying

  • What to do if your child is the bully

  • What to do if your child is being bullied 

12:15pm – 1:00pm: Cyber-Bullying

Stefan Mascoll, ATOD Specialist, Safe and Drug Free Youth Office, will discuss:

  • Cyber-bullying

  • Navigating the internet safely

1:15pm – 2:00pm: Inhalants: The Silent Epidemic

Natalie Sposato, Prevention Specialist with Fairfax-Falls Church CSB Prevention Services, will discuss:

  • County 8th graders use above national average

  • Awareness of inhalants

  • Strategies to address community concerns

This free Youth Prevention Conference will provide valuable insight and informational tools to help Fairfax County families, communities or schools combat pressing and often deadly activities.  Seating is on a first-come basis.
